This quote floats around the Internet a lot, but the context behind it is even dearer. In CS Lewis' Voyage of the Dawn Treador, Fear is thicker and thicker and darkness surrounds the ship, and Lucy hears "Courage, dear heart" whispered to her to quicken her spirit and give her hope. I'm so grateful for this past week of rest and family, and if I'm honest I still don't feel ready for December. It can be fast and furious at times, making it to Christmas. Maybe you can relate: perhaps work is stressful at the year's end, or family time isn't something you look forward to, or the frenzied shopping gives your heart and your wallet pangs. May you hear that same steady whisper tonight, as you prepare to enter December: "courage, dear heart". Advent is a time of preparation, to make way for the coming of Jesus. I pray that we all can carve out a little more room to have courage and hope in this season of waiting.
