This has been a weekend of weddings and love. Last night was a beautiful celebration for a dear family friend. Today is my parents 29th wedding anniversary. It was a privilege to stand in the service where they led the entries married congregation in renewing their vows to each other. This evening, I practiced painting olive branches and lavender for a sweet friends ceremony program. Today as we read 1 Corinthians 13 in church, a verse I memorized in elementary school, heard repeated in weddings my whole life, I was struck by the heavy weight love carries. Love IS, love DOES, love ALWAYS. Love is always faithful to its calling: to be kind, patient, humble, joyful, protecting, trusting, hopeful, persevering. So many things to be, always and and all at once-- and never failing. But we do fail each other-- we are impatient, unkind, envious, boastful, self-seeking. We keep all sorts of records of wrongs. We give up, distrust, lose hope. I am grateful to be surrounded by strong Christian marriages that bear the responsibility of love not only together, but with Jesus. Jesus, the one who is patient, kind, never envious, boastful, proud; always trusting, hopeful, persevering. The One who never fails. To my sweet parents who live out the joy and trials in a vulnerable and glorifying way, I love you so much. Thank you for showing me that the Love that never fails is Jesus, because He is love. Happy 29th anniversary and to 29++ more!
